Business Advice: NSW Small Business Month – why you should take part

NSW Small Business Month – why you should take part

Have you heard that October is NSW Small Business Month? It’s being run by the NSW Department of Industry. Please take advantage of some of the 250 plus events being run across the state. There are local events plus some online webinars.

Western Sydney has been highlighted as a focus area because it’s considered a ‘hot spot’. Other focus areas include digital innovation, women in business and startups.

To find events visit businessmonth.nsw.gov.au and use the search tool to filter what you are looking for by location, keyword or by category of event. Events can promote networking, idea sharing or be practical workshops.

Western Sydney Business Centre is taking part by holding an event at Penrith Panthers on the 19th of October All About Social Media and Digital Marketing. This free event is fully funded by Small Business Month, but bookings are essential through the centre.

Blue Mountains is not forgotten, and we have a free Low-Cost Online Marketing seminar with me on 23rd October in the morning at Springwood. Again bookings are essential.

Also in the area or nearby are other events being run by Councils, Chambers and some private businesses, including Blacktown Business Booster on 25th October for a small fee. Flying Solo are running webinars under the banner ‘Home Truths’.

Please take advantage of what is available. Many government departments have gotten on board with low or no cost events in the area. For instance Service New South Wales is running some events about it’s ‘Easy to Do Business’ program targeting new cafes.

Many people complain ‘the government’ doesn’t do enough for them, but then fail to take advantage of the programs provided. This month is a great opportunity to connect with your local community, learn, start or grow your business. Remember you can expand your learnings by then utilising another great Department of Industry initiative – Business Connect. Advisors like myself can spend 4 hours with you (spread over a few meetings) to help tailor what you learned to your business, or see if other alternatives may better meet your needs. One of those could be the new Federal Government ASBAS Digital Solutions program that we also offer.

Business Connect

Take advantage of the NSW Small Business Month offers, then arrange to see your local Business Connect Advisors by contacting Western Sydney Business Centre.
