Stepping Out – Unveiling the power of industry events

Are you a business owner who often feels disconnected from the rest of the world due to being too busy working in your business? Do you find it hard to keep up with the latest technology trends because you don’t have enough time to learn them?

Last week, I went to Queensland to attend Retail Fest Australia. It was a three-day e-commerce expo designed for business owners across Australia. The event offered a wide range of workshops covering various topics, including AI, SEO, and marketing. The workshops were designed to help business owners learn about the latest industry insights and improve their e-commerce business skills. Additionally, industry speakers share their experiences and an exhibition with service providers such as 3PL, logistics, CRM, and SMS marketing available to support businesses.

On the first day, I attended a three-hour E-commerce Accounting 101 workshop. I learned about cash flow, gross profit, pricing, inventory, and most importantly, how to improve them by understanding the numbers and the relationship between each of them. This knowledge can help with marketing strategy.

While spending time away from your business to work on it, it doesn’t mean you can’t have fun. There were after-parties in the evening, and if you’re an early riser, you could join a morning run along the beach at 7 am. As for me, I had the chance to check out some local restaurants and tried Persian food for the first time.

Overall, those three days gave me a different perspective. It helped me view my business from an outside point of view and identify areas that need improvement.

So, if you’re wondering whether you should attend industry events, maybe ask yourself if it’s time to step out of your comfort zone. You might be surprised at what you could learn or, better still, the connection you can make.
