When Is the Best Time to Post on Social Media?

Article Written by Katina Jaye Beveridge, ASBAS Advisor, Western Sydney Business Centre.

One of the keys to success when posting on social media is knowing what time you should be doing so. If not, your post will just get lost in all of the other content and never reach its target market.

Analysing data from tens of thousands of social media accounts, a new study by Sprout Social reveals the best times to post on social media in 2022.

Best Time to Post: Overall

Overall, midweek mornings have the highest level of social media engagement.

This applies to the days between Tuesday and Thursday at 9 or 10:00 in the morning. Sunday is the worst day to post on social media.

Facebook

Facebook engagement has shifted from mid-morning to early morning. Early weekday mornings have the highest consistent engagement and are regarded as the best times to get eyes on Facebook posts.

Mondays through Fridays at 3 a.m. are the best times to post on Facebook. Saturday is the worst day to post on Facebook.

Instagram

Instagram experienced a surge in popularity between 2020 and 2021, reaching two billion monthly users by 2022.

The increase in users has resulted in an expansion of the top time periods to post on Instagram, with midday engagement on weekdays increasing in comparison to previous years.

The best times to post on Instagram are as follows:

According to the study, there are also opportunities for increased engagement in the evenings and on weekends.

LinkedIn

LinkedIn engagement is highest during the workweek, is most concentrated during midday, and does not extend too far beyond the workday hours. It’s unlikely that you’ll receive much engagement on LinkedIn posts over the weekend, as engagement drops dramatically.

The best time to post on LinkedIn is Tuesday starting from 10 a.m. until 12 p.m. Wednesdays and Thursdays are the best days to post on LinkedIn while Saturdays and Sundays are the worst.

Bottomline

We’d like to emphasize that this data is not a guarantee of social media success. Depending on your audience and niche, your best times to post may differ significantly from those in this study.

Before implementing any practices recommended in industry studies, it is critical to conduct your own testing.
